Monterey Bay is a very productive region due to intense upwelling of
nutrient-rich waters and a deep Submarine Canyon, which provides one
of the best places on earth to observe a variety of seabirds, in addition
to many species of mammals.
The diversity of habitats in the area offers opportunities to observe
nearshore, offshore, and migrating seabirds all within range of a half-day or
full day boat trip. Seabirds inhabiting Monterey Bay include both local
breeders and those migrating from the Arctic and southern hemisphere regions.
